Summary
Bilqiss, a rebellious widow, is tried in a fictional Islamist country and threatened with stoning for having given the call to prayer in place of a drunken muezzin. The narrative alternates between the voice of the accused, that of Judge Hassan, who delays delivering his verdict, and that of Leandra, an American journalist who has come to cover the trial.
